You’ve probably experienced moments, like I have, where you’ve been completely in tune with yourself and your environment totally absorbed in your unique zone doing something where you spontaneously say and/or do the right thing at the right time.

Examples of Being in Your Unique Zone

Having clarity of your unique zone allows you to be in a flow of spontaneous right feeling, thinking, deciding and acting, as described below:

According to Psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi:

“Flow is the mental state of operation in which the person is  fully immersed in what he or she is doing, characterized by a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and success in the process of the activity.”  

jona Rugby superstar Jona Lomu describes his unique zone:  
“When I play at my peak I get into a different zone, I become a completely different person. I can’t really explain it. I’m so focused on what I have to do, you could be talking to me but you’d have to slap me to get my attention. It’s almost like you’re running, but you’re watching yourself while you’re running – like an outer body experience. When you get to that sort of clarity in your mind and your mind is at peace and your soul is at peace with your body and all is in sync, it becomes a completely different experience.”

Side-Effects of Not Being in Your Unique Zone

 

 You’ve probably had instances, like I have, where you haven’t been in your unique zone and made silly unforced errors and mistakes that waste your and others time, energy and resources.

So what if, you could consciously trigger being in your unique zone more often, if not most or all of the time?

  • Not getting has much support as you’d like, even though you’re doing the “right things” to improve your outer game?

What sparked wanting to share knowledge about being in your unique zone was two things. The first ever big screen movie I saw was Star Wars, at the age of seven. I was completely enamored by it and the theme of using the force for spontaneous right action yet 10 years later I was peeve that no one ever explained what the force was and how to tap into it. Secondly, having read Malcolm Gladwell’s book Outliers I understood the concept of doing 10,000 hours to master something yet I’d done that as a competitive athlete and full-time meditating monk and still didn’t achieve what I desired in those areas. So working with business leaders over the past 15 year I realized there is something deeper going on that allows people to be leaders in their field and it’s by being in your unique zone.
 
                            Your Unique Zone (YUZ) is key to being a New Maverick leader
 
YUZ is very personal and specific to you and allows you to be in a very simple sharp alert yet settled focused state in the present moment, where you see the bigger picture for yourself and some of the details, based on a high degree of mind-brain-heart-body integration and an alignment between who you are, what you’re good at and what your higher purpose and goals are.
 
                                                     Your Unique Zone Evolves as you Do
 
YUZ needs to be upgraded and updated as you evolve, just as we do with computer software. (Side note: the next real frontier of development is hi touch human software development to complement and balance our hi tech world.) I’ve repositioned my unique zone three times in my life so far, from being a competitive athlete for 10 years to being a full-time meditating monk for 10 years to being an executive development advisor for 15 years. Because as I’ve evolved I’ve realized more about myself, my capabilities and higher purpose and goals and re-positioned myself to reflect that new evolution and expression of my unique zone where I get maximum support.
